Install the CLI from a Hub

Get the kndl command on your laptop from your team’s Hub. It keeps itself on the Hub’s version.

This command doesn’t run a Hub or a Runner. To make a machine one, install kndl instead.

  • The Hub’s URL, such as https://hub.example.com.
  • macOS or Linux, on arm64 or x64. On Windows, use WSL.
  • curl or wget.
  1. Run the Hub’s install script:

    Terminal window
    curl -fsSL https://hub.example.com/cli | sh

The first install for a platform can take a minute while the Hub builds it.

  2. If the script says ~/.local/bin isn’t on your PATH, add the line it prints to ~/.zshrc or ~/.bashrc, and open a new terminal:

    Terminal window
    export PATH="$HOME/.local/bin:$PATH"
  3. Check that it runs:

    Terminal window
    kndl --version

To install it somewhere else, set KNDL_BIN_DIR:

Terminal window
curl -fsSL https://hub.example.com/cli | KNDL_BIN_DIR="$HOME/bin" sh

Each time you run it, kndl checks the Hub it came from. When the Hub runs a different version, kndl updates itself first:

kndl: updating to 1e9cf127d5c2 from https://hub.example.com...
kndl: updated to 1e9cf127d5c2.

If the Hub doesn’t answer within two seconds, kndl runs as it is. Set KNDL_NO_SELF_UPDATE=1 to turn updates off.

Commands that set up a machine, such as onboard, status and update, need a full install, and say so.

Sign it out first, so the Hub revokes its token, then delete it:

Terminal window
kndl logout
rm ~/.local/bin/kndl ~/.config/kndl/cli.json
